Q&A: Will an arm tattoo become stretched as I grow?

Question by E: Will an arm tattoo become stretched as I grow?
I’m 17 and I’m looking to get my second tattoo. I’m looking to get it on my bicep. I’m worried however, that it will become distorted if my arms gets bigger or smaller. My last tattoo artist said that it would not unless I experienced quick, dramatic change. I’m thinking about a somewhat small script font around my arm though. Will the smallish letters become distorted as my arm changes sizes?

Well, I think it would depend on your placement. If you wanna see a distorted tattoo, check out Alan Belcher’s tattoo… It looks like a fat Elvis or something. Yes, tattoos can stretch, but… I dunno, if you want to get a band of script around your arm, I’d think they would only stretch if you did a lot of weight lifting or something

What do you think? Answer below!

Quite possibly. If you’re male, you still have some growing left to do as well. So I would wait.

But that area is definitely prone to stretching especially if you’re athletic.

Absolutely. Your skin will always be stretching and shrinking. If you ever go to the gym or gain wait, your tattoo design will stretch to accommodate. Perhaps more worrisome is that if you lose that weight or lose that muscle, your skin will often become soft and possibly wrinkly, which will continue to ruin the tattoo.

If you still want to get a tattoo on your bicep, feel free. But make it something that can stretch and shrink without altering the tattoo design (so no faces, words, etc.).
